Holistic health has many components. The components are physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. Emotional health is a very important aspect of holistic health. It pertains to people’s emotions and feelings about the world around them and the events that take place in their lives. Emotional health is defined by Dr. Doris Jeanette as “the degree in which you feel emotionally secure and relaxed in

everyday life.  An emotionally healthy person has a relaxed body, an open mind, and an open heart” ” (2015)

How Important is it to Have Healthy Relationships?
One important aspect of emotional health is the ability to maintain healthy relationships. To attain good emotional health, you could seek a healthy relationship with someone who makes you feel comfortable, secure, and safe. Certainly people do not need to be in a relationship to be emotionally healthy, but strong healthy relationships can lead to stronger emotional health and provide many benefits.

don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

For example, I feel that I am in a stable and healthy romantic relationship. I have been with my fiancé for over six years now. He has many characteristics that bring joy to my life and thus making me feel emotionally secure. Before I met him, I wasn’t a very confident or outgoing person. He has helped me come out of my shell and be more assertive. Our relationship is not perfect. We both have quirks that annoy one another, however I feel that if you truly care for someone, those little problems don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

The researchers concluded that married couples or people in long lasting committed relationships take better care of themselves, possibly to continue their relationship with their significant other, thus increasing their quality of life. The health benefits of being in a healthy relationship are as follows:

  • Lower risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Lower risk of developing dementia
  • Relieve harmful levels of stress
