Healing & Awakening the Heart: Animal Wisdom for Humans

You can create a life that is much more fulfilling during the journey of finding the buried treasure in your heart. A heart full of longing and pain can actually lead to enlightenment. Once we enter our heartache entirely, rather than run from it or fight it, it can become a path to enlightenment.

In my case, heartache became my teacher of awakening into a peace that is all-pervasive and consistent. In the face of disillusionment and devastation, when a career-dream was temporarily jeopardized, three hawks arrived to assist me. The turning point was a climactic event in my life. The results have stayed with me.

As my career flourished and my life filled with wonders, a lifelong dream of producing three inspiring videos about awakening, animal communication, and miracles was close to realization.

There was one hitch in my emerging success. My DVD footage was being held hostage. I did not have the ransom funds. Sounds like a movie! But it’s a true story.

night skyI was so angry that I went outside kicking my feet as I sought peace under the night stars. My heart felt crumpled into a paper ball. Alone in my despair, I sat a moment by the compost pile, feeling a desire to be transformed into something more fertile. I got up, walked a ways, then made a left turn, unsure of why. I just followed my senses in the same way I follow what beckons.

There, late at night, under stars, sprawled below me, no longer alive, was one of my best friends, the hawk.

There had been three hawks that spent lots of time with me. They called to me each day, circled around me, attended my seminars in circles above, and guided me into the place where heart and sky were the same. What happened to this one?

I could not understand. I blamed myself. My negativity over this matter of the DVDs must have killed the hawk, I thought.

Hawk flying in sky“That is not what happened,” said the hawk, who was right above me, though her body was on the ground. “Please go inside, sleep, and listen,” she continued. By passing the feelings in her own heart into mine, she was able to give me this message.

Despair was literally extracted from my body in that moment. I felt comforted by the presence of my loving friend. Following her guidance, I went to bed. Lying awake most of the night, I felt flown. My heart was lifted into lighter and lighter contentment. Everything but love disappeared. I experienced myself flying in waves of blissful peace.

Some of you are now in suspense, while others may be thinking, “This isn’t the book for me. Animals don’t talk, and if they do I can’t hear them!” Read on and do not give up. The eight elements I learned from the animals’ promptings can be used anywhere and anytime with or without animals. They were given to me by animals, and so I credit them and share my stories here. You will use the information in your own ways. Those of you who love animals can deepen your understanding of the elements with animals. Those of you who are not in relationships with animals will practice the elements to achieve your desired results.  In the morning I was asked by my hawk friends to bury the hawk’s body. I was told exactly where to dig the hole.

Her body was protected as it returned to the ground of our living. I was given some information by the hawks and then they asked me a question.

“Why are you here on Earth?”

“For Peace.”

“Are you here for Peace or for your video footage?”

Sorrow ran through my throat and into my heart, and then drained right into a stream of joy that circled all through me.

“Peace.” Suddenly it was clear. My eyes teared up in love. The footage would come and the footage would go. Peace beckoned. In the arms of peace, joyful love swirled.

“Now, drive down to the company who has your footage. Go straight to their office.”

“I’ve tried. They are never there. The door is locked. They do not answer the phone.”

“Go. Go in Peace.”

Driving at NightI drove down the long winding road from Hidden Valley Sanctuary where I lived and taught my courses. Peculiarly, my car felt settled, like a baby in a nest, as I parked at the office of my producers.

Surprisingly, the door was open.

I walked in, right into Arthur, the company owner, who had my footage. Arthur had been handling his business by holding on to others’ belongings and asking for ransom fees. I was not alone. I had spoken to three other business owners in town who were experiencing similar troubles with Arthur. As it turned out, he had no background in DVD production, and no education in the skills he professed to have mastered. Arthur was a good talker, whose fraudulent business would soon be put to rest by the county. His earnings were not coming from rendering services he promised to provide. At this time he had many of us fooled. One woman was taking him to court. Another woman was on the verge of closing her business due to damage incurred from his involvement.

I had asked Arthur kindly to return the videos many times. I had pleaded with him. I had called an attorney. I had offered a compromise. For weeks, I had tried everything I could think of to resolve this problem. I was considering holding a peace vigil with many of the people who had contributed to creating the DVDs. The footage remained in his hands. But now, with my hawk friend guiding me, I understood that I had only one task. This task was not to get footage. Footage comes and goes.

Loving EyesI looked into Arthur’s eyes with complete love, needing nothing.

I experienced myself dissolving into a full love with nothing else required. Love of love alone flew my heart right into his. He received the delivery. I saw the love in his eyes too.My mission was accomplished and I turned to go.

“Wait, Laurie. I have been thinking. Just a moment.”

He reached down to his desk, picked up a box, and handed me all of my footage. A powerful peace seemed to clear the room and invite in a vast, spacious, neutral love. I left, feeling reverence for the hawks and all life.

After that, what was needed came. Someone who could finish the DVD project soon emerged. The videos were made by a new producer. Quickly after that, my work began drawing in people from all over the globe. People flew in from various parts of the USA, Asia, Europe, and Canada to receive assistance with their challenges. Person after person remembered the buried treasure of whole love within their heart. Peoples’ lives changed. Situations became more spacious so that solutions to troubles were born. Emotions mended. Years later, I reflected upon this natural and effortless journey in which I was well guided. My heart had been healed and I found a love that is real. The buried treasure in my heart was an ability to be in love anywhere at any time.

This love is inside me and goes with me wherever I am.

I realized that eight elements are at play: value, purpose, peace, subtraction, witnessing, addition, redesigning, and offering.

20 Tips on How to Find Love

How do we find love? Millions of people around the world are seeking love. If you do a search online right now for answers, you will quickly discover hundreds, if not thousands, of online dating services. Yet, is this really the answer to what we are seeking?  The answer is hidden deep within our hearts. YOU are love. It is you.

HOW DO WE FIND LOVE?
Many of us spend lifetimes searching for love outside of ourselves when true wisdom shows us that love can only be found within us.

But sometimes it is difficult to believe that love can be easily found within.  We feel bitter, resentful, frightened, worried, depressed, angry, lost, empty, hopeless, and lonely.  Where did the love go?  The truth is that love didn’t go anywhere.  It didn’t leave us.  It is there, but we must find it.  How do find something that is not missing?  We must open our spiritual eyes and ears and look and listen beyond what we see. We must learn to take action to love ourselves before we can love others.  The truth is that love is always with us.  Love can be found anywhere.

20 TIPS ON HOW TO FIND LOVE

  1. Find love by doing things you love – Do something that you remember enjoying and loving as a child (cooking, swimming, drawing, basketball, listening to music, petting a dog, walking in a forest, etc.).  If you can’t remember, ask someone who can (your mother or father, sisters or brothers, close friends).  Take time to do things you love every day.

  2. Find love by giving to your friends or loved ones – Write down the names of several friends who you love. Write down why you love them and what their redeeming qualities are.  Next call these friends or get together with them and tell them how much they mean to you and what you love about them. Don’t expect them to say the same about you.  Practice giving love without receiving it.  You might have the opportunity to receive love from your friends, but practice not expecting it, and loving just for the sake of loving.
  3. Find love in the world around you. Make an alphabet list (three for each letter of the alphabet) that puts a smile on your face (eg., aprons, apples, astrology).  Keep this list handy.  Look at the list often and think of the things that you love. Open your heart to receiving from the world around you.
  4. Find love through volunteering.  Volunteer at a homeless shelter, goodwill store or soup kitchen.  Helping others brings love into the heart.  When you return home, make a gratitude list.  Think of the things that you have in your life that these people do not have. Write a thank you note expressing  your gratitude for these gifts in your life.

    Writing in a journal can help us find love.

    Find love by listening to yourself. Write down your thoughts during the day. If you have negative thoughts, write them down and then burn them, cut or tear them into little pieces, or flush them down the toilet.  As you destroy the negative thoughts, replace the thoughts with gratitude for the good things in your life.  If you can’t think of anything to be grateful for, make a list. Start with the basics:  I’m alive. I’m breathing. I have hope. I have this article right now. I have a place to sleep. I have food., etc.

  6. Find love by listening to others. Listen to a “talk radio” program where people call in with their problems, or listen to a friend who is sharing with you about his or her problems with giving and receiving love.  Listening to how others solve their problems, brings healing in ourselves. Take notes. Write in your journal about it. Then contemplate on the ways in which others have learned about how to give and receive love, and think of how this relates to your own life.
  7. Find love by joining a support group or weekend workshop or seminar to help you unleash your fears, heal your heart and take the next step. If you don’t feel like talking at first, that’s O.K., join a weekly one-hour group rather than a big commitment like a seminar.  Just go for an hour and tell others you want to listen. Use good discrimination.  If the group is just a lot of people complaining and gossiping, this does not add to your health and well-being.  Seek out positive, loving groups that focus on forgiveness, love and hope.  After attending, always take time to reflect and summarize what you have learned for yourself.

  8. Find love by taking a class and developing your skills.  Do this just for fun and just for you.  Learn a new skill (eg., sewing, car repair, home decorating, French lessons, computer programming etc.).  Investing in ourselves builds self esteem, happiness and brings self love.
  9. Find love by participating in an online chat group. Love can be found anywhere because it is inside of you. To find love in an online chat group, you can be anonymous, or not. Don’t join the group expecting to find a whirlwind romance.  Don’t join the group if people are complaining, gossiping about others, trashing their lives, complaining about the world, and bringing you down.  This is not love.  Find a group that makes you laugh and brings joy into your heart. Participate. Give support to others. Learn to read carefully what others say. Respond with supportive statements. Be a good friend.  Be a friend who is lighthearted, joyful and confident in yourself.  Learn how to experience love by giving love.
  10. Find love by reminding yourself of your good traits. Write down 20 positive and lovable traits about yourself and tape it to the refrigerator (eg., stylish, spontaneous, daring, open-minded, good at poker, etc.) .  Read it often.

  11. Find love by reading uplifting positive books every night before going to sleep. Throw out or give away books that are dramatic, depressing, and maintain a victim consciousness.  Be selective. Negative books might give you a thrill or sensation of dominance or power, but these feelings don’t last and you are left with a feeling of emptiness and lack of love.  Now is the time to make good choices about what is loving and what is not loving. Remember that you are responsible for creating your world.
  12. Find love through loving, joyful music. Throw out all music that is angry or depressing. Choose to saturate yourself with music that is happy, loving, inspirational, joyous, and peaceful.
  13. Find love by giving yourself permission to be unloving: sad, frustrated, angry, or depressed, etc.   Take some quiet time to get in touch with those feelings.  Love the bad feelings, and forgive yourself. If you harbor bad feels toward another person, ask yourself, “What was the lesson in this relationship?  How did I benefit from this? What did I learn?”  When you identify the lesson and blessing, then let it go, be grateful, and forgive.
  14. Find love by putting love into your outer shell – clothing, and home.  Get a “makeover” (a new haircut, new clothes, clean and redecorate your house, etc.). Have fun, think loving, nurturing thoughts while making improvements, and invest in yourself.
  15. Find love by giving love to your physical body. Exercise, do deep breathing, or go for a walk. Get a massage.
  16. Find love by eating good food. Poor diet can bring on depression and make it difficult, if not impossible, to feel happy and loved.  Make a list of healthy foods, buy them, and tape the list to your refrigerator.
  17. Find love by getting plenty of sleep. Nothing blocks a happy heart more than lack of sleep and rest.  Allow yourself time to rest, relax and recharge.woman praying
  18. Find love through meditation or prayer. If you’ve identified a problem that you cannot solve, surrender it over to a higher power. Speak with spiritual people whom you trust (priest, minister, friend, family member).  Spiritual exercises, prayer, contemplation, guided imagery or meditation can be instrumental in opening the heart to experiencing divine  or higher love and wisdom.  Imagine love filling your body with a beautiful golden, shimmering light. Feel love in your heart and keep this feeling throughout the day. If it goes away, take time out to repeat the exercise.
  19. Find love through listening to “self-help” motivational recordings. There are many audio and video recordings available free or for purchase that help awaken others to a more loving consciousness. Visit our YouTube site for our playlist.
  20. Find love by reminding yourself, “You are Love. It is You.”   Download, or copy and print out this free poster here, and put it up somewhere where you see it every day. Write “I am love.” 15 times before going to sleep at night.

  • The average household credit card debt is  $15,418.
  • The average mortgage debt is $149,782.
  • Average student loan debt: $34,703
  • Total U.S. credit card debt $793.1 Billion
  • Average credit card debt per household $15,799
  • Average household debt $54,000
  • Percent of consumers that carried an unpaid balance in the past 12 months 56%
  • Percent who said their debt had gotten “higher” in the past 12 months 26%

WHY DO PEOPLE GO IN DEBT?

Debt is not something new.  It has been a challenge for people throughout the ages.  Why do people go in debt?  How do people shift from debt to positivity, abundance and affluence? Let’s see what others have to say about it.  The old English proverb states:

It means people always think they would be happier if things were different, and usually it makes no difference whatsoever.

The truth is that we as a nation and as a world, often find ourselves looking for something better in life, and frequently look for someone else to blame for our circumstances. It’s human nature, but it doesn’t have to be.   Each of us can have a life of abundance, contentment, gratitude and happiness.

  1. Set a budget. Bring it with you everywhere you go.
  2. Set up a savings account. Don’t spend it.
  3. Make a “necessary” shopping list. Put only absolutely critical items on this list.
  4. Always have the necessary list with you in your purse, pocket, or wallet, and check it often.
  5. Stop all “unnecessary” spending.
  6. Search online to compare prices.
  7. Find and save newspaper sale ads.
  8. Clip and save magazine coupons.
  9. Search and print online coupons.
  10. Keep coupons and ads with you at all times.
  11. Give the gift of quality time to others instead of buying presents.
  12. Give a gift of homemade foods.
  13. Give a gift of service (cleaning, babysitting, cooking, etc.)
  14. Go shopping with a partner who keeps you on track.
  15. Gain skills. Do things yourself instead of paying someone else. Sign up for free classes.
  16. Record & review spending habits weekly.
  17. Ignore “limited time only” “while supplies last,” and other marketing ploys, etc.
  18. Pay cash only for everything when you are out shopping in the stores.
  19. Cut down on gas and buy online.
  20. Give group gifts, not individual gifts if possible and set up a “Secret Santa” gift exchange, if there isn’t one, to cut down on the number of holiday gifts.
  21. Be persistent and disciplined.
  22. Barter instead of paying. Find out what they need and trrade a skill that you have, such as cutting hair, for something that you need, such as weeding the garden.
  23. Give sentimental gifts (photo albums, framed homemade artwork, song, or poem).
  24. Earn extra income part-time if possible, running errands for people or doing chores.
  25. Keep extra cash and change in a piggy bank, to save up for big expenses, like car repairs, etc.  Don’t spend it on unnecessary things.
  26. Sign up for email discount and  sale announcements, and read them.  Mark sale dates on your calendar.
  27. Keep your calculator with you and total up everything before arriving at the checkout line.
  28. Use layaway plans.
  29. Stop eating out and learn to cook.
  30. Always pay more than the minimum payment amount to pay off your bills, even if it’s just a few dollars more, so that you build up your credit.

THERE IS ONE MORE VERY IMPORTANT TIP  – SEE IT AND BE IT!

These tips are great but there is one more very important tip that affects all of the others.  It is positive thinking and manifestation.  Believe in yourself. Imagine affluence.  Write it down.  Envision it.  You can do this any number of creative ways.  Make a list of what your new situation looks like.  If it’s a vacation, right down everything from the moment you arrive at your destination to the last day of your trip. Describe the food, the silverware, the clothes, the lampshade, the people grabbing your luggage, the smells, etc.  If you want money for healthcare, describe the healthcare you receive, the person’s hairstyle, the bracelet she is wearing, the man you see and the color of his eyes.  You can practice writing yourself a check. Use your checkbook and fill out the check. Write on the check your name, and the amount, “all the money I will ever need” or something along those lines. Sign the check and fill it out completely.  Give it to yourself and accept it with gratitude. Then put the check safely away in a drawer and see what happens in a few months.  Check out books, videos, and CDs online about positive thinking and manifestation. Try hypnotherapy, EFT, and meditation.   Practice a daily discipline of bringing the energies of abundance into your life.  SEE IT AND BE IT.  You can do it!
